Making opera accessible to all
Thrapston Plaza Opera
Thrapston Plaza Opera is a small, friendly, amateur opera group that was founded by Vincent Davy in 2010. Its first production was a performance of Bizet’s ‘Carmen’ in February 2011.
The aim is to present a good quality production for and involving the local community. Soloists sometimes come from further afield but most of the chorus are locally based. Children are recruited from local schools to take part if
required. All operas are sung in English accompanied by an orchestra of experienced players.
Operas are staged in Thrapston Plaza and we hope to offer audiences a chance to experience grand opera in Thrapston at affordable prices.
For 2027 we are planning to perform Tannhauser by Wagner featuring some famous arias and the stunning Pilgrim's chorus.
Auditions will take place in the Thrapston Plaza on Sunday 12th July 2026 and rehearsals will start on Tuesday 15th September
in St James Church Hall, Thrapston. at 7.30pm.
All singers are invited to join in.
Chorus members are not auditioned and anyone interested is welcome to come along to our rehearsal to discover what’s involved.
Music reading is not essential and it doesn’t matter if you haven’t sung in a chorus before – you will be made very welcome.
Singing not for you?
Then how about helping with costumes, scenery, publicity, front of house, make- up, marketing? There will be something for everyone.
